Our Story
Lok Swasthya SEWA Trust (LSST) is registered under the Bombay Charitable Trust Act committed to improving the social protection including health, childcare of women working in the informal economy and their families. As part of the larger Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), a movement of over 3.2 million informal women workers across 18 states of India, LSST carries forward the vision of the movement: full employment and self-reliance. Full employment includes work and income security, food security and social security.
Self-reliance includes both decision-making and control by informal women workers of their economic activities and their lives.
LSST focuses on primary healthcare, child care, insurance education, capacity-building, and cooperative education. Our approach is holistic, member-led, and rights-based, with all our programmes shaped by the lived experiences of women workers themselves.
Our Mission
We believe that when women have access to appropriate and affordable care, reliable information, and supportive networks, they are better equipped to improve their health and overall quality of life and can then contribute meaningfully to their communities. Our mission is guided by a long-term commitment to building systems of care and support that are rooted in trust, participation, and dignity.
